2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Direct Fuel Injector on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step to replace a direct Fuel Injector requires disconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the Fuel Injector harness connector before taking off the Intake Manifold assembly. You must first relieve high side fuel system pressure by using ch 48027 or without it to disconnect the high pressure Fuel Pump's engine wiring harness electrical connector before taking off the engine wiring harness clip from the high pressure Fuel Pump cover. Start with taking out the fuel feed intermediate pipe and then detach the Fuel Injector wiring harness electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. Undertake the removal of Fuel Rail bolts then remove the Fuel Rail while watching out for the fuel injectors to exit with it. The direct Fuel Injector hold down clamps should be discarded before using j 2619-01 and j-37281-a to remove direct fuel injectors. Dismantle the upper o-ring seal and plastic spacer by discarding them first then gently extract the lower nylon seal from the injectors. To install the new parts, first position a plastic spacer onto the fuel injectors before lubricating a new o-ring seal with silicon-free engine oil gm p/n 12345610 (Canadian P/N 993193) or equivalent and then installing the seal on the injectors. Thread en-48266-1 to the injector tip before applying a new seal to its outer surface followed by a complete draw of the seal against the injector groove. Use en-48266-2 to resize the seal by letting it reach the injector body bottom when you rotate it 180 degrees in both directions. After mounting the direct fuel injectors on the Cylinder Head their installation must be finalized with newly installed hold down clamps. The first step involves positioning the Fuel Rail properly before tightening the outer Fuel Rail bolts first followed by the rest while keeping all fasteners hand tight. Add the wires from the Fuel Injector wiring harness to their corresponding connectors before securing Fuel Rail bolts at 22 nm (16 lb ft) torque according to the specified order. Reinstall the fuel feed intermediate pipe afterward. The connection between engine wiring harness electrical connector and high pressure Fuel Pump must be completed before installing the engine wiring harness clip together with the Fuel Injector insulator. The final step includes connecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the Fuel Injector wiring harness electrical connector and performing a leak check during ignition on and off. Install the low side fuel pressure service port cap along with tightening the fuel fill cap before reinstallation of the Intake Manifold assembly.
