2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Hood Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Hood Cable for the Primary Latch Release on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Start by raising your hood before removing the hood cable from the latch while remembering how the hood cable routes through the engine compartment for installation. Insert a 2 m (7 ft) wire length to the latch end of the cable. Start by removing the left front carpet retainer inside the vehicle. The hood latch handle bracket needs two small flat-bladed tools to disengage its retainer clip before the handle can be slid rearward. To slide the handle if it gets stuck, clamp pliers onto the tab of the hood release lever base near the bracket and onto the bracket's rearward edge then squeeze them gently. You may need a flat-bladed tool to engage the slot. Feed the hood cable toward the dashboard front before releasing the grommet by using a flat-bladed tool. The feeder wire gets taped to the cable end as the cable moves through the cowl grommet until reaching the engine area. Squeeze both ends of the hood cable through the instrument panel hole then eliminate the feeder wire from the cable. Stab in the hood cable handle assembly onto its bracket before installing the front carpet retainer. Connect the hood cable to the latch before conducting an inspection of the hood cable operation. Finish the process by closing the hood.
