2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Starter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on a 4.3L engine on 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: The beginning step to replace the Starter motor on a 4.3l engine consists of removing the negative Battery Cable. The maintenance process begins with vehicle suspension followed by removal of any skid plate from beneath the oil pan and the bolts attaching it to the vehicle. The Starter replacement process begins by removing the Starter solenoid cable clip bolt from the frame. Then remove Starter motor bolts before detaching the Starter solenoid cable lead nut and lead. Remove the Starter solenoid cable lead by undoing its nut before taking the wire off the Starter. The Starter needs removal from the vehicle after dissolving the engine wiring harness lead nut and engine wiring harness lead from the Starter assembly. Replace the Starter shield if it shows any sign of damage during replacement. As part of new Starter installation it is vital to install the Starter heat shield before you install the Starter itself. Position the Starter inside the vehicle before connecting the engine wiring harness lead at the Starter point through the engine wiring harness lead nut while applying a torque at 3.4 nm (30 lb in). Secondly attach the Starter solenoid cable lead to the Starter then tightly secure it with a 9 nm (80 lb in) torque on the Starter solenoid cable nut. First tighten the Starter motor bolts to 50 nm (37 lb ft) before applying Starter solenoid cable clip to the frame and installing the Starter solenoid cable clip bolt with 10 nm (89 lb in) torque. Position the available oil pan skid plate before installing its bolts which should be tightened at 28 nm (21 lb ft). End your work by lowering the vehicle and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
