The replacement of an engine coolant Thermostat on a 4.2l engine requires drain of Radiator coolant followed by generator removal. Next, remove the generator. The first step is to loosen the clamp that holds the outlet hose in place at the Thermostat Housing before removing this hose. You should disassemble the Thermostat Housing bolts to extract the housing from the engine block. Thoroughly clean both the Thermostat Housing surfaces and the engine block sealing surface. Fit the Thermostat Housing back onto the engine block while procuring a tight grip on Thermostat Housing bolts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Apply engine coolant inside the Radiator Hose before installing it to the Thermostat Housing where a clamp will maintain its position. Reinstall the generator. Following engine start, check for seal leakage while conducting inspections of all sealing surfaces. Special tool j 38185 hose clamp pliers should be used for this procedure.
