    A: Start by removing the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle before using a soft jawed vise to secure it. Use side cutters to remove and dispose of the small boot clamp that secures the boot. After that, use the correct tool to remove and dispose of the large boot clamp from the boot. Take the boot out from the tripot housing then extract the inner tripot housing from the wheel drive shaft. Use appropriate instrumentation to uninstall both the wheel drive shaft's outer tripot spider retaining ring and the tripot spider from the wheel drive shaft. The repair sequence includes inner tripot retaining ring removal from wheel drive shaft with appropriate tool followed by boot removal from wheel drive shaft and subsequent wheel drive shaft inner joint inspection. When installing the assembly place the boot onto the wheel drive shaft and make sure it fits properly into the groove. First install the appropriate tool to place the inner tripot retaining ring on the wheel drive shaft. Install the tripot spider by moving it until it touches the shoulder on the wheel drive shaft. After that, apply the appropriate tool to insert the outer tripot spider retaining ring. Inside the j 35910 - pliers close the boot clamp to a specific measurement of 1.8 mm (0.07 in) for x88 vehicles or 2.6 mm (0.10 in) for z88/w49/wda vehicles. Mount the wheel drive shaft boot to the tripot housing before you place the tripot housing onto the wheel drive shaft. Add a half portion of lubricant to both the boot and the tripot housing before proceeding with installation. Size the gap between the boot clamp using j 35910 pliers along with the ratchet wrench operated by a breaker bar to 1.9 mm (0.07 in) for x88 vehicles and 2.6 mm (0.10 in) for z88/w49/wda vehicles. After removing excess lubricant from tripot housing and wheel drive shaft the technician should perform circular movements with the tripot joint housing to spread the lubricant through the housing. After removing the wheel drive shaft from the vise you can reinstall it into the vehicle.
