In order to replace the rear wheel drive shaft outer joint and boot, one should remove the wheel drive shaft from the car and secure it in a soft jawed vice, ensuring not to cut through the inboard or outboard boot to ensure that the sealing surface is not damaged. After this, check for presence of a low-profile boot clamp, and then eliminate and discard the outer boot clamp and inner boot clamp from the cv joint boot , then remove the cv joint boot from the cv joint housing . If the shaft has the boot clamp of ear type, remove the outer boot clamp & inner boot clamp before you pull the cv joint boot from the cv joint housing. After that check the c code (J8059) to remove the retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft and take off the cv joint boot from the wheel drive shaft. Check the cv-joint prior to assembly by placing the boot and clamp on the wheel drive shaft without crimping and have the boot seated in the groove of the wheel drive shaft. Install the retaining ring on the wheel drive shaft using j 8059, close the boot clamp on j 35910 so as to measure 1.8mm (0.07in) for x88 vehicles, 2.6mm (0.10 in) for x88/z88/w49/wda vehiclesas in such a way as to make it make the cv joint just brush against the inner retaining ring. Mount the cv joint on the wheel drive shafts with the aid of a block of wood and a hammer, then apply half of the lubricant into the CV Boot and half into the cv joint , ensuring to remove the excess lubricant. In case of the wheel drive with ear type clamp, the boot clamp should be closed by the means of j 35910 until the distance between two parts would be 1.9mm (0.07 in). For vehicles with x88 while all locking tabs should be locked. For a low profile clamp, then close boot clamp with ch 48894, then rotate the cv joint to a circular motion of 4 to 5 times to evenly spread the lubricant before releasing the wheel drive shaft from the vise and reinstalling it.

Start the boot and outer joint replacement process by removing the drive shaft from the vehicle then mounting it inside a soft-jawed vice without cutting the boot's sealing surface. Strips low-profile boot clamps from the CV joint boot until both clamps along with the boot itself can be removed from the CV joint housing. Beginning with shafts featuring ear type boot clamp removal requires eliminating the outer boot clamp and inner boot clamp from CV joint boot before extracting CV joint from wheel drive shaft using the combination of a wood block and hammer. Use the J 8059 - snap ring pliers to detach the retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft before you can remove the CV joint boot. Inspect the wheel drive shaft CV joint. During boot assembly keep the clamp and boot on the wheel drive shaft while ensuring that the boot shaft rests within its designated groove. Fix the retaining ring onto the wheel drive shaft by using J 8059 - snap ring pliers before closing the boot clamp with J 35910 - drive axle boot clamp pliers until the gap reaches 2.15 mm (0.85 in). Use a block of wood struck with a hammer to install the CV joint onto the wheel drive shaft before filling half of the lubricant inside the CV boot and the other half inside the CV joint. Remove excess lubricant. Use the J 35910 - drive axle boot clamp pliers but also the torque or ratchet wrench and breaker bar to shut down the boot clamp on ear type wheel drive shapes until the gap shows 2.15 mm (0.85 in) whereas the locking tabs stay locked tightly. Use the CH 48894 - drive axle boot clamp pliers to close the boot clamp before moving the CV joint through circular motions 4 to 5 times for lubricant distribution. After completing the process remove the wheel drive shaft from the vise to reinstallation.

The first step to replace the rear wheel drive shaft outer joint and boot begins with wheel drive shaft removal from the vehicle followed by securement in a soft jawed vice. Hand the inboard and outboard boot while removing the drive shaft to protect the sealing surface. The wheel drive shaft with its low profile boot clamp requires outer boot clamp removal before discarding both clamp pieces and bootstrap separation from CV joint housing. CV joints with ear clamp boots need their outer boot clamp and inner boot clamp removed prior to disassembly of the CV joint boot from the CV joint housing. Begin by detaching the CV joint from the wheel drive shaft with a hammer and block of wood before using J 8059 snap ring pliers to remove the retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft. Next, take off the CV joint boot from the system. Check the CV joint located on the wheel drive shaft. When assembling the boot along with clamp onto the wheel drive shaft proceed without crimping while also ensuring the boot remains in the wheel drive shaft groove. Receive the retaining ring through the J 8059 snap ring pliers before using the J 35910 drive axle boot clamp pliers to tighten the boot clamp until the gap reaches 2.15 mm (0.85 in) where the CV joint touches the inner retaining ring. Position the CV joint on the wheel drive shaft with a block of wood and hammer before inserting half of the lubricant throughout the CV boot and half into the CV joint. Remove all excess lubricant. Use J 35910-drive axle boot clamp pliers with torque or ratchet wrench and breaker bar to close the boot clamp of wheel drives with ear type clamps. Keep the locking tabs fully locked while maintaining a 2.15 mm (0.85 in) gap. Use the CH 48894 - drive axle boot clamp pliers to shut the boot clamp before performing circular motion on the CV joint 4 to 5 times to spread the lubricant. Once done remove the wheel drive shaft from the vise while reinstalling it.

Install the tripot housing on the wheel drive shaft and the wheel drive shaft boot on the tripot housing.

Using a brass drift and hammer, carefully tap around the tripot spider face to compress the barrel retaining ring, then remove the tripot spider and discard the barrel retaining ring.

Use a block of wood and a hammer to install the CV joint on the wheel drive shaft.

Use the appropriate tool to remove and discard the outer boot clamp and the inner boot clamp from the CV joint.

Inspect the wheel drive shaft inner joint.

Separate the wheel drive shaft outboard seal from the trilobal tripot bushing and slide the seal away from the joint along the wheel drive shaft bar.

Install the outer tripot spider retaining ring using the appropriate tool.
