  • Q: How to Replace a CV Boot and CV Joint on a Front Wheel Drive Shaft for Inner on 2010 GMC Acadia?
    A: To ventiate the front wheel drive shaft inner joint and boot , first take out the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle and afterwards keep it at a soft jawed vise. With side cutters, remove and throw away the small boot clamp from the boot ; using the proper tool, remove the large clamp from the boot and throw it away. Next, take off the boot from tripot housing and the inner tripot housing from the wheel drive shaft. Use the right tool to get rid of the outer tripot spider retaining ring from the dedicated to the wheel drive shaft, then tripot spider. If so fitted, remove the appropriate tool to remove the inner tripot retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft, and then remove the wheel drive shaft boot. Examine the inner joint of the wheel drive shaft. For assembly, mount the boot on the wheel drive shaft so that it appears seated in the groove. If available, install the inner tripot retaining ring using the proper tool. Place the tripot spider onto its seat until it contacts the shoulder on the wheel drive shaft and then use the proper tool to place the outer tripot spider retaining ring. Using the j 35910 - pliers close the boot clamp until the gap measures 1.8mm (0.07in) for x88 and 2.6mm for x88/w49/wda. Mount the tripot housing on the wheel drive shaft and lift the wheel drive shaft boot on the tripot housing . Put half of the lubricant into the boot and the other half in the tripot house. Using a j 35910 - pliers , ratchet wrench , and a breaker bar , tighten the boot clamp until the distance between the clamp and the link is 1.9 mm (0.07 in) for a vehicle with x88 and 2.6 mm (0.10 in) for vehicles with z88/ w49/ wda. Drain any unnecessary lubricant from the tripot housing and wheel drive shaft before you rotate the tripot joint housing in round motion spreading out the lubricant. Lastly, pull the wheel drive shaft out from the vise and replace it into the vehicle.
