• Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2010 Cadillac STS?

  A: To replace the engine front cover, first, you will remove the engine cover, then for models with lp1 and ly7 engines, will take-out the upper Intake Manifold together with the lower Intake Manifold, but in the case of llt engines will take-out the Intake Manifold. Then take off camshaft covers, drain the engine coolant, cut off the purge vent hose from the water outlet, and take out the water outlet with the Radiator Hose. Move on to remove the accessory drive belts and the A/C Compressor and power steering tensioner, and remove the generator bracket along the generator and belt tensioner ensuring you disconnect the power steering pipes or drain the fluid. They reposition the power steering fluid reservoir for access, then remove the power steering pump pulley, then the power steering pump upper-front bolt, while getting loose the remaining bolts. Then, proceed and take off the crankshaft balancer, camshaft position sensors, and camshaft position actuator solenoid valves from the front cover. Pull out the engine front cover with Water Pump, remove the engine front cover and disassemble, then clean the sealing surfaces carefully try not to use sharp or metal scrapers. Blow out all the engine coolant from the cooling passages and oil pan scraper with compressed air. Completely assemble the engine front cover using the en 46109 to put it in place. Install the camshaft position actuator solenoid values and the camshaft position sensors with the crank shaft balancer. Reinstall the power steering pump and pulley, and the power steering fluid reservoir, and the generator bracket with the generator and belt tensioner. Mount the A/C Compressor and power steering belt tensioner then the accessory Drive Belt. Remove the water outlet and purge vent hose, then reinstall it, fill up the cooling system and lastly install the camshaft covers, inlet conduit (in case) and the engine cover and again refill the cooling system.
