2010 Chevrolet Camaro Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a two-piece drive shaft on 2010 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Vehicle elevation and vehicle support become the first step when changing the two-piece propeller shaft. Remove the Exhaust Heat Shield. The first task is to disconnect both rear propeller shaft coupling from the rear drive flange and front propeller shaft coupling from the transmission output flange while discarding old nuts for replacement with new ones. Support the propeller shaft with a suitable jack stand after removing its bolts and nuts which connect the shaft to the transmission output flange. Support the propeller shaft once again after you replace all the bolts that connect it to the drive pinion flange with fresh parts. Uninstall the propeller shaft support bearing bolts . Excessive wear or damage on the propeller shaft coupler requires discarding all bolts and nuts connecting it to the propeller shaft while removing the propeller shaft from the vehicle and the propeller shaft coupler. First reference the fastener warning guidelines before you install both the new propeller shaft coupler components and coupler bolts. Seal the new propeller shaft coupler nuts with a torque value at 91 nm (67 lb ft). Clean lubrication should be applied to the transmission drive flange pilot shaft and differential drive flange before aligning the reference marks on the propeller shaft to the transmission drive flange and properly installing the propeller shaft to the transmission drive flange. Fasten the propeller shaft bolts while securing the new propeller shaft nuts with 97 nm (72 lb ft) torque. The reference marks on the propeller shaft need to be matched against the rear differential drive flange before screwing in new propeller shaft bolts at 115 nm (85 lb ft) torque. The procedure concludes with bolt installation for the center support bearing at 22 nm torque. To finish the task remove the Exhaust Heat Shield and lower the vehicle from its elevated position.
