2010 Chevrolet Camaro Tie Rod Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod in the steering linkage on 2010 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The first step to replace the outer Tie Rod in the steering linkage consists of removing the front tire assembly along with the wheel. Place match marks on the inner Tie Rod nut of the steering linkage using paint along with the outer Tie Rod. Start by measuring and documenting the thread distance between the inner Tie Rod nut before loosening both rods while giving the inner nut half a turn rotation and the outer nut reaching the top of the stud thread. The j-38892 - ball joint separator can disengage the Steering Knuckle from the outer Tie Rod and so you must discard the outer Tie Rod nut. Take out the outer Tie Rod from the Steering Knuckle by removing it from the inner Tie Rod while recording the number of steps required for separation. During installation use the recorded turns from removal to rejoin the outer Tie Rod to the inner Tie Rod while maintaining a proper length for equivalence to the earlier measurement. Before installing the new outer Tie Rod nut you must connect it to the Steering Knuckle then secure the nut with 30 nm (22 lb ft) torque followed by an additional 120-degree rotation of the nut. After aligning the match marks it is necessary to reinstall the front tire assembly and wheel before performing front toe measurements and inner Tie Rod nut tightening to 75 nm (55 lb ft).
