Chevrolet Camaro Tie Rod Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the inner tie rod of the rack and pinion off on Chevrolet Camaro?
A: To replace the inner Tie Rod of the Rack And Pinion off the vehicle, first, make sure the rack is fixated so that it could not suffer a loss in the process. Start by taking out the shock dampener from inner Tie Rod assembly and then push it back on the rack. Then unbolt the inner Tie Rod assembly from the rack assembly by grabbing a wrench and placing it on the flats of the rack assembly and another wrench on the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing (unbolt and rotate the assembly CCW, separate from the rack ); first unbolt the 18 studs. Clean off the old loctite from the threads of the rack, and the internal Tie Rod. Mount by sliding the shock dampener forward onto the rack to be sure that the threads are clean before applying loctite(R) 262 (or equivalent) to the inner Tie Rod threads, using only enough to coat them evenly. Install the inner Tie Rod to the rack by inserting a wrench on the flats of the rack assembly and using a torque wrench on the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing then torque them to 100 nm ( 74 ft. Lbs.) finally, slip the shock dampener over the inner Tie Rod housing to the point at which the front lip bottoms on the inner Tie Rod housing and install the Rack and Pinion Boot.
