2002 Chevrolet Camaro Tie Rod Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on 2002 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The first step to replacing an outer Tie Rod End starts with hoisting the vehicle in the air then removing its wheel and tire. The first step requires users to eliminate both the cotter pin and the hex slotted nut which secure the outer Tie Rod . Subsequently, they should loosen the jam nut which holds the inner Tie Rod . First detach the outer Tie Rod from the Steering Knuckle through use of the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B). Next remove the outer Tie Rod from the inner Tie Rod. The installation process begins with attaching the unfitted outer Tie Rod to the inner Tie Rod yet leaves the jam nut untouched before connecting the outer Tie Rod to the Steering Knuckle. Tighten the hex slotted nut that secures the outer Tie Rod stud to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) but adjust it up to 1/6 turn additional for proper alignment of the cotter pin . After installing the cotter pin into the Tie Rod stud center it is necessary to adjust the front toe before pushing the hex slotted nut fully tight.
