2002 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Rack and Pinion Boot for On Vehicle on 2002 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: To change the rack and pinion boot on the vehicle, first, strip the outer tie rod, then remove the nut from the inner tie rod assembly and the tie rod clamp. Use the side cutters to dispose off the boot clamp prior to pulling the rack and pinion boot. For installation, take the new boot clamp and attach it to the rack and pinion boot and apply grease on the inner rod and the gear assembly prior to attaching both the new boot to the inner tie rod assembly. Make sure that the rack and pinion boot is not twisted or deformed; In case, shape it by hand and fix it if it is necessary. Next install the boot into the gear assembly so that it sits in the groove and then use the J 22610 Service Boot Clamp Installer (J 22610) as means of installing and crimping the boot clamp. Finally, install tie rod end clamp on the boot using a pair of pliers and install jam nut on the inner tie rod assembly and on the outer tie rod.
