2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: You must stop the Crankshaft rotation to use compressed air in the cylinder because the flywheel holding tool needs protection. To work on a manual transmission vehicle set it in first gear while keeping it on the ground and engage the parking brake. For automatic vehicles take out the Starter media. Install the flywheel holding tool then take out both the Camshaft and Camshaft roller followers. Place the valve spring compressor on the cylinder head and take out the spark plugs. Put the air hose adaptor into the Spark Plug opening before pressing the cylinder to 690 kpa (100 psi). Use the valve spring compressor tool to tighten the valve spring then take off valve spring holders and the valve spring itself. Put the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover tool to work and take out the valve seal. Install the (Valve Stem Oil Seal Remover) to put new valve seals before placing the valve spring. Reload the valve spring onto the valve and add both valve spring keepers at the same time. The air hose adaptor must be removed from the Spark Plug hole before taking out the valve spring compressor from the cylinder head. Put back in place the spark plugs plus Camshaft roller followers alongside the Camshaft. First put back the Starter if it was removed and finally remove the (Flywheel Holding Tool).
