Begin valve lifter replacement by removing both the Cylinder Head and its gasket. First remove the guide bolts labeled 211 before proceeding to remove the lifters (209) with their guide (210). The j 3049-a (Valve Lifter Remover) should be used to unstick valve lifters which become stuck due to gum or varnish build-up. Place the valve lifters (209) and guide (210) into organized arrangements for correct reinstallations. Examine all valve lifters and perform a cleaning operation. Reused valve lifters need to be installed at their initial positions when put back into place. Drive clean engine oil into the guide bore and valve lifter bore before forcing the valve lifters (209) into the lifter guides (210) until complete insertion. Position the valve lifters (209) together with guide (210) into the engine block maintaining all fastener precautions. Secure the valve lifter guide bolts (211) at 12 nm (106 lb in) torque setting. Set the Cylinder Head into position with its gasket.
