• Q: How to replace the Shift Knob on 2010 GMC Acadia?

  A: Apply the parking brake and then take out the left extension panel of the floor console to replace the Shift Knob on your acadia. Take out the connector from the transmission tap up/tap down switch, then set the key to the run position but do not start the engine. Slide the transmission shift control lever back and slide a small, flat tool between the trim ring and the Shift Knob to gently release the trim ring and allow it to drop 13.0 mm (0.5 in). Turn the screw out of the shift control knob and guide the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical harness and connector to the side of the shift control indicator while taking off the knob. Put gm p/n 88861426 lubricant (Canadian P/N 88861442) on the end of the shift control lever before you attach the shift control knob, guiding the harness correctly. Put the control knob screw back in place and tighten it to 4 nm (35 lb in). Gently push up on the shift control knob trim ring so that it clicks and stays on the Shift Knob. Put the shift lever into the park position, turn the key to off, and reconnect the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector. Test the shift control in every gear position, put the floor console left extension panel back in, and then free the parking brake.
