2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Reservoir on 2010 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: The Power Steering Reservoir replacement operation starts with complete Power Steering Pump assembly removal from (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L), (4.3L), or (6.6L). Proceed by removing studs from the Power Steering Reservoir located on the pump assembly before extracting the pump fitting and its fitting seal. You must first remove the Power Steering Pump flow control valve together with its spring from the pump assembly before you can separate the Power Steering Reservoir from the pump. The Power Steering Reservoir magnet needs cleaning before inspection but you should not remove the Power Steering Pump welch plug because a deformed or dislodged plug requires Power Steering Pump replacement. Installation of the Power Steering Reservoir magnet consists of cleaning then positioning it before attaching Power Steering Pump seals (1, 4, 5) to the Power Steering Pump followed by connecting the Power Steering Reservoir to the pump. The Power Steering Pump flow control valve spring and valve must be installed onto the pump assembly and then the Power Steering Pump fitting seal should be added before assembly completion. Begin the torques on the Power Steering Reservoir studs while hand-starting the Power Steering Pump flow control valve fitting before completing the tightening procedure. Secure the Power Steering Pump fitting into the pump assembly at 75 nm (55 lb ft). The Power Steering Reservoir studs should be installed to the pump assembly where torque must reach 58 nm (44 lb ft). Reinstall the Power Steering Pump assembly onto the vehicle as the last step of this process.
