  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Reservoir on GMC Sierra 1500?
    A: Start by removing the Power Steering Pump assembly before performing a replacement on the Power Steering Reservoir off the vehicle. You should first remove the studs of the Power Steering Reservoir from the Power Steering Pump assembly then disconnect the Power Steering Pump fitting and its accompanying seal. Proceed to uninstall the Power Steering Pump flow control valve along with its spring from the Power Steering Pump assembly before you remove the Power Steering Reservoir from connection with the pump. The Power Steering Reservoir magnet requires cleaning before visually checking the welch plug inside the Power Steering Pump. Replace the Power Steering Pump when the welch plug is deformed or dislodged. After cleaning the reservoir magnet install it, place Power Steering Pump seals (1, 4, 5) onto the pump before connecting the reservoir to the pump unit. The Power Steering Pump assembly should receive the flow control valve spring and valve before installation of the Power Steering Pump fitting seal and the Power Steering Pump fitting. Initial torque up of Power Steering Reservoir studs and Power Steering Pump flow control valve fitting should be carried out manually before applying final torque values. The Power Steering Pump assembly requires the fitting to be installed and torqued to 75 n.m (55 lb ft). Install the Power Steering Reservoir studs to the Power Steering Pump assembly then torque them to 58 n.m (44 lb ft). Finish the installation of the Power Steering Pump assembly into the vehicle after all the steps are complete.
