Buick Terraza Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on Buick Terraza?
A: Start by draining the vehicle's cooling system then disconnect the negative Battery Cable before beginning replacement of the engine front cover. Start by removing the drive belt tensioner then drain the engine oil before you remove the Oil Pan. The next step includes removing six major items: crankshaft balancer, thermostat bypass pipe, radiator outlet hose, Water Pump, and Power Steering Pump. Begin by unscrewing the engine front cover bolts to detach the combination of the front cover with its attached gasket. When replacing the engine front cover start by cleaning it then conducting an inspection. If a new front cover is required remove the drive belt shield bolt alongside the drive belt shield and Water Pump too. Installation requires gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent sealer applied to front engine cover gasket surfaces with a minimum width of 5.0 mm (0.20 inch). Fitting the gasket and engine front cover goes next with the engine front cover bolts installed starting with small bolt torque to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) and larger bolts (2, 3) reaching 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.). The installation order requires the Power Steering Pump followed by the Water Pump and radiator outlet hose before adding the thermostat bypass pipe and crankshaft balancer and Oil Pan. Completion of the project involves tightening the drive belt tensioner while adding fresh engine oil to the crankcase and filling the cooling system and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
