The Fuel Pressure Regulator in Chevrolet Astro vehicles is important to maintain the right fuel pressure within the units of the electronic fuel injection. It is fitted on the fuel rail and has a spring and diaphragm movement to vary the fuel delivery as per the vacuum of the engine. When the throttle is at low rate, the regulator permits the surplus fuel to lapse back to the tank while at high rate of throttle, the vacuum is reduced, thereby restraining the return flow while enhancing the pressure for the fuel delivery. There are many types of Fuel Pressure Regulators which have been fitted to Astro vehicles over the years including some which are adjustable for use with fuel systems. Most OEM regulators are fixed, and thus they can restrain performance at the time large injectors or high volume pumps are used. Improved regulators can be made from the billet aluminum and are used for better tuning of the air/fuel mixture ratios and are available to suit street use, performance, and extreme racing uses.

Chevrolet Astro Fuel Pressure Regulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the fuel pressure regulator on Chevrolet Astro?
    A:
The first priority when replacing a Fuel Pressure Regulator requires eliminating pressure from the fuel system. You should first extract the upper intake manifold assembly and then detach the Fuel Pressure Regulator retainer clip. You should twist-maneuver the Fuel Pressure Regulator from its housing position through a shop towel protection while retrieving spilled fuel. Take off the four components of the regulator system beginning with the regulator seal lower o-ring followed by the regulator assembly filter then the regulator seal upper o-ring and ending with the regulator seal back up ring before discarding them. Check the filter screen for debris when reinstalling the Fuel Pressure Regulator and change the unit if it contains contamination. Place new o-rings under clean engine oil before installing the regulator seal back up ring followed by the regulator seal upper o-ring then the regulator assembly filter and concluding with the regulator seal lower o-ring. Mount the regulator by pointing the vacuum tube downward before fastening it with the retainer clip. The negative Battery Cable must be reattached after reassembly of the upper manifold before reinstalling the engine cover. The inspection for leaks requires turning on the ignition with engine power off for 2 seconds followed by turning it off for 10 seconds and then turning it on with power off again for fuel leak detection. Finally, install the engine cover.
