Chevrolet Astro Sway Bar Bushing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the sway bar bushing on Chevrolet Astro?
A: Start the Sway Bar Bushing replacement by lifting the vehicle. The Idler Arm to frame mounting bolts need to be removed before detaching the idler arms from the frame. This establishes access to the sway bar bracket retaining bolts. First separate the sway bar bracket mounting bolt from the left-hand nut before proceeding with the removal of sway bar bracket mounting bolts on the right-hand side and sway bar brackets. A pry bar enables the lowering of the sway bar while the sway bar bushings are detached from their position. Use the pry bar to lower the sway bar before attaching its bushings onto the sway bar at a position where the bushing slit points toward the front. Before installing the sway bar brackets to bushings use right-hand sway bar bracket mounting bolts then left-hand sway bar bracket mounting bolts and nuts. Install the idler arms onto the frame and fasten them with mounting bolts to a torque of 105 nm (77 ft. Lbs.). Then, attach the sway bar bracket mounting bolts and the nut with a torque of 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
