Chevrolet Aveo Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The replacement process for brake shoes starts by removing the Brake Drum and unstressing the leading shoe hold-down return spring which requires following brake dust caution. The upper link of the leading shoe connecting link spring needs to be detached first to release tension from the upper return spring followed by removal of the upper return spring and adjuster. Unfasten the trailing shoe and lining assembly hold-down return spring and disconnect the trailing shoe and lining assembly on the right side. Also detach the lower return spring. Safety glasses should be worn during minimum brake lining thickness measurement while the adjuster assembly must be cleaned and greased before examining its threaded rotation performance and inspecting all brake components for replacement of damaged parts. To install the trailing shoe and lining assembly with hold-down spring and washer and pin combine these elements while the Parking Brake Cable must connect to the shoe lever through proper routing instructions. When attaching the shoe lower return spring users need to pay attention to avoid excessive stretching. Place the leading shoe and adjuster assembly against the backing plate before fastening the lower return spring to the leading shoe and continuing with the adjuster assembly installation by turning it into its maximum position. Move the spring clip toward the backing plate before inserting the leading shoe combined with the hold-down spring and connecting the leading shoe to both springs. When fitting the upper return spring through the spring connecting link to the Brake Shoe avoid forcing excessive stretch because the adjuster assembly nut needs to reach the stop without securing at the end of the adjustment assembly. Mainly focus on rear brake adjustments before putting on the Brake Drum and then handling the park brake adjustment.
