  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on 2010 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: First, remove the Brake Drum to replace the brake shoes. Next, remove the lower return spring as well as relieve the pressure on the upper return spring by prying out the upper connection end from the leading shoe. Then remove the connecting link spring and connecting link together with adjusting lever as well as upper return spring and adjuster. Remove the trailing shoe hold-down spring and cap, the trailing shoe hold-down pin, and the trailing shoe. Do this again for the leading shoe by taking off the hold-down spring, cap and pin in a parallel way. For inspection is to measure minimum thickness of the brake linings, clean the adjuster assembly, apply the grease and look for smooth rotation of the adjuster assembly threads replace components that are damaged or worn. When installing, do pay attention to the proper routing of the park brake cable and then attach it to the trailing shoe lever. Mount the trailing shoe with the following; the hold-down spring, cap and and the pin without over-stretching the lower return spring. It is necessary to attach the lowest return spring to the trailing shoe, position the leading shoe and adjuster assembly against the backing plate, and finally, attach the lowest return spring to the leading shoe. Mount the adjuster assembly turning it in as far as possible and mount then the leading shoe with the hold-down spring, cap, and pin. Attach the adjusting lever to the leading shoe followed by the connecting link and connecting link spring with no overstretching of lower return spring. Install the upper return spring from the leading shoe to the connecting link; making sure the nut are not locked firmly in the end at this adjustment assembly; and that the same adjuster assembly nut drawn all the way at the stop. Lastly, adjust the rear brakes and fix the Brake Drum, followed by adjusting the park brake.
