Start the process of replacing the tailgate handle by opening the luggage compartment then removing the left side wheelhouse and rear quarter and rear trim panels. Start by taking out the lock striker then unplug the cable connection. Next remove driver and rear seats before relocating the floor carpet to the left side and taking out the bolt and handle to disconnect the handle cable. The installation requires wiring the cable through the luggage compartment into the passenger area for connection with the handle. Screw the handle with its bolt into place while tightening it to 8 N.m torque (71 lb in) and put the floor carpet in its normal position. Put back the front and rear seats and connect the cable to the lock striker before finally installing the lock striker. Reinstall all left side wheelhouse along with rear quarter and rear trim panels as the last step.
