Chevrolet Equinox Catalytic Converter Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace a catalytic converter on Chevrolet Equinox?
A: A vehicle should first be raised and supported for Catalytic Converter replacement. The heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) connector should be removed from its position on the wiring harness. First remove the nuts which connect the Catalytic Converter pipe flange to the exhaust system pipe flange then discard both pipes and their gasket. An incorrect deflection angle of more than 6 degrees in the Catalytic Converter flex coupler can result in failure. Separate the Catalytic Converter flange from the Exhaust Manifold by disassembling the nuts that secure the converter to the manifold then discard both gaskets. First remove the rubber isolator from the Catalytic Converter support bracket before taking off the Catalytic Converter from the vehicle. Intervention becomes necessary when Exhaust Manifold studs show signs of wear or damage. Before installing a brand new Catalytic Converter, you must remove the ho2s. When reinstalling the ho2s make sure to install this component first if it was previously removed during the process. Secure each Exhaust Manifold stud using 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) torque. Fasten the rubber isolator to the hanger of the Catalytic Converter. Support the Catalytic Converter assembly so the flexible coupling remains undamaged while maintaining less than 6 degrees of vertical motion. The new gasket goes next to the Exhaust Manifold where you can sink the Catalytic Converter before you tighten the nuts to 37 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Insert a new Exhaust Pipe to Catalytic Converter flange gasket before connecting the Exhaust Pipe to the Catalytic Converter pipe. Tighten all nuts to 37 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). The last step includes connecting the ho2s connector to the wiring harness and lowering the vehicle.
