2007 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a catalytic converter on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Start replacement of a Catalytic Converter by lifting and stabilizing the vehicle. First detach the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) connector from its wiring harness then unthread the nuts connecting the Catalytic Converter pipe flange to exhaust system pipe flange. Discard the pipes and throw away the gasket. Failure of the Catalytic Converter flex coupler occurs when it deflects beyond 6 degrees so avoid such deformation during installation. The nuts securing the Catalytic Converter to the Exhaust Manifold should be removed first with the subsequent step of detaching the Catalytic Converter flange from the Exhaust Manifold before discarding the gasket. First detach the Catalytic Converter hanger from its rubber isolator then remove the Catalytic Converter from the vehicle. Exhaust manifold studs that show signs of wear or damage must be replaced. The replacement of a new Catalytic Converter requires elimination of both the ho2s. When reinstalling begin by installing the ho2s first. Use 6 n.m torque when tightening the Exhaust Manifold studs into place. Secure the rubber isolator to the Catalytic Converter hanger while preserving converter support to prevent internal harm. This setup should allow only 6 degrees of vertical movement. Place a new gasket onto the Exhaust Manifold before fastening the Catalytic Converter into position using Catalytic Converter nuts that need tightening to 37 n.m (27 lb ft). Place a new Exhaust Pipe flange gasket onto the Catalytic Converter flange followed by connecting the Exhaust Pipe to the Catalytic Converter pipe through proper tightening of the nuts to 37 n.m (27 lb ft). The last step involves attaching the ho2s connector to the wiring harness followed by lowering the vehicle.
