Chevrolet Metro Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on Chevrolet Metro?
A: Starting the coil spring service begins with proper vehicle support and elevation. Begin the service process by removing the rear wheel and tire and separating the control rod-to-knuckle nut and washer until you can extract the control rod from the knuckle stud. Service the coil spring by first disconnecting abs Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connectors and removing sensor harnesses from control arms. Start by taking off the stabilizer link from the Control Arm then place a floor jack under the suspension arm for support. Start by taking out the suspension arm-to-knuckle bolt together with its nut and afterward manually evacuate the knuckle assembly away from the suspension arm. Drop the suspension arm by lowering the floor jack while it releases the coil spring from the upper seat and suspension arm. Evaluate the spring and upper seat for signs of cracking and determine if the seats are due for replacement. When installing the spring to your suspension arm make sure it fits correctly into the arm's stepped section. Use the floor jack to lift the suspension arm until it matches the height of the suspension knuckle so the bolt holes between both parts become properly aligned. Secure both the suspension arm-to-knuckle bolt and nut into place with a torque of 40 nm (29 ft. Lbs.). Installing wheel speed sensors require connection of their electrical connectors together with harness mounting to control arms of abs equipped vehicles. Mount the stabilizer link onto the Control Arm before torquing the stabilizer link-to-control arm link nut to 25 nm (19 ft. Lbs.). Secure the control rod to the knuckle stud by using a washer and a nut then use a torque wrench to tighten the control rod-to-suspension knuckle nut to 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.). Finish by removing the floor jack while reattaching the rear tire and wheel pair and lowering the vehicle.
