These tools should be used for servicing the Steering Angle Sensor when replacing either the Steering Angle Sensor or steering shaft lower bearing: j 42640.
Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640). Disable the sir system first and keep the front wheels straight while locking the Steering Column before removing either the Steering Column or intermediate shaft to stop alignment issues and shield the sir coil assembly from damage. Lock the Steering Column by using the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640). When working with the sensor users need to verify that new sensors arrive equipped with pins. If not, reorder the sensor. Extract the Steering Column together with sensor connector for better access. The sensor needs a pin installed before removal to preserve centering alignment which makes sensor discarding necessary if this step is omitted. The acceptable area for pin dimensions extends from 1 to 2 millimeters. The bearing adapter needs to stay in place. Pull the sensor directly from the bearing adapter at a 90-degree angle off the steering shaft. All force during sensor and bearing adapter installation must be applied straight forward not sideways. To reuse the sensor place it on the steering shaft while keeping the pin inside. Individual sensors arriving for replacement will come set to center position. The installation process needs to be finished prior to removing the pin. First, maintain a 3 mm distance between the sensor and bearing adapter before putting on the sensor connector and removing the pin and installing the sensor retainer while reinstalling the Steering Column. The sir system becomes operational after removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640).
