Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Power Steering Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Reservoir on Chevrolet Silverado 2500?
A: Replacement of the Power Steering Reservoir requires draining power steering fluid from the Power Steering Pump as the first step. Testing begins by removing both pump mounting studs together with the connector and fitting assembly. Start the replacement by first removing the variable assist steering actuator along with its retaining ring followed by removal of the o-ring seal from the connector and fitting assembly. The pump housing assembly requires removal of the control valve assembly together with the flow control spring if doing so is necessary. The reservoir assembly needs detachment from the pump housing assembly until o-ring seals together with the magnet can be cleaned. A trained technician should inspect the welch plug inside the Power Steering Pump housing yet keep it in place; a damaged or broken plug requires replacement of the Power Steering Pump housing. The assembly requires new o-ring seals with power steering fluid lubrication before installation of the control valve assembly and flow control spring to the pump housing assembly followed by o-ring seal installation and the magnet installation to the same housing assembly. The assembly of reservoir components to pump housing requires installation of the o-ring seal. The assembly procedure begins with connecting the fitting assembly before adding the variable assist steering actuator along with its retaining ring. Tighten the pump mounting studs to 58 nm while the connector and fitting assembly should be fastened to 75 nm.
