Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the upper intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Silverado 2500?
A: Begin the upper intermediate Steering Shaft replacement operation when both vehicle wheels face forward and the Steering Column sits in locked position to protect the sir coil assembly from damage. Install the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) by locating it through the Steering Column lower access hole first. Identify all related points of the intermediate shaft components through marking the upper shaft's double clamp assembly and lower clamp assembly ties to the bolt and the connection junction between the upper and lower shaft sections. Remove first the nut and bolt connecting the lower shaft to upper shaft then proceed to remove the nut and bolt which connects the upper shaft to the Steering Column. Drive the intermediate shaft downward from its Steering Column connection before removing the accelerator pedal position sensor. After sliding the upper intermediate shaft towards the instrument panel you should detach it from the lower intermediate shaft before extracting this component from your automobile. The installation process requires shaft alignment through reuse of existing marks and lower end insertion of upper intermediate shaft into bulkhead and lower shaft. Attach the upper end of the upper intermediate shaft to the Steering Column before you install the bolt and nut at this location and torque the nut to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.). Add the accelerator pedal position sensor and retighten the connecting nut between upper and lower intermediate shafts at 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). Take out the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the lower access hole of the Steering Column.
