Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic TPMS Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the TPMS Sensor (Clamp In Style) on Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic?
A: In order to replace the Tire Pressure Indicator Sensor (Clamp In Style) lift the vehicle on a proper support and take off tire/wheel assembly. Assuredly before the tire has come off, take the cap and valve of the sensor and place it on a clean surface, it should always be a cap of aluminum and a nickel plating valve so it doesn't corrode. During the separation of the tire bead from the wheel, place the bead breaking fixture in 90 degrees from brake valve and break the tire bead with tire iron or pry bar slightly clockwise of the sensor body while breaking over the mounting/dismounting head. Turn the tire/wheel assembly clockwise with the tire machine when lifting the tire bead to the outside of the wheel rim and do the same for the inner bead before removing the tire. Before you remove tire pressure sensor nut and the sensor, wash away any possible tire sealant from the tire surface and the wheel. Clean any dirt/debris from the grommet sealing area then insert the sensor into the wheel hole to have the air passage away from the wheel. Mount the sensor nut parallel to the inside wheel surface with 7 Nm (62 inch lbs) torque. Prior to reinflating the tire, move the mounting/dismounting head to 180° from the valve stem and the bead transition area at 45° counterclockwise relative to the valve stem. Rotate the tire/wheel assembly in a clockwise direction during the transfer of the tire bead to the inside of the wheel rim, and repeat the same for the bead on the outside before mounting the tire onto the wheel. Notice that a service replacement tire pressure sensor will arrive in the OFF mode so the sensor's unique identification code will not be learned into the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) memory; to turn the sensor out of OFF mode, rotate the tire/wheel assembly more than 32 km/h (20 mph) over at least 10 seconds. Finally, mount the tire/wheel assembly to the vehicle, bring down the vehicle and learn the tire pressure sensors.
