Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic?
A: As a first step in Oil Pan replacement you must elevate the automobile. The quantity of transmission fluid needs to be calculated during this step because usable fluid can be transferred into a sanitary receptacle for further use. First remove both the Drain Plug along with Drain Plug seal from the Oil Pan until fluid drains into an appropriate storage container. Inspect the drained fluid. Traverse the 12 bolts to hold the Oil Pan in position before removing the last bolt then extract the Oil Pan together with its gasket. Check the magnet for significant or large metallic dust particles because these signs would require transmission rebuild or new transmission. You should keep the transmission internal oil filter seal in place for pan or gasket replacement alone. Pull the transmission internal oil filter from the suction tube in transmission case downward then discard old components from the filter or seal bore. The installation process starts with cleaning all gasket material from the transmission case followed by a confirmation of complete scratch elimination to prevent leakage. Install a new sealing component to the transmission internal oil filter tube after removal by placing the seal against the shoulder at the internal oil filter tube end. Position the filter with its attached seal properly inside the transmission case seal bore by pushing them through the bore. Mount the transmission case Oil Pan using two m8 x 1.25 headless guide bolts installed in opposite corners before placing the gasket. Place the gasket and Oil Pan over the guide bolts allowing you to secure the bolts by adding their screws respectively. Fasten the 10 new Oil Pan bolts with 27 nm torque (20 ft. Lbs.) until they are secure. Insert the Drain Plug together with its Drain Plug seal before tightening the plug to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.). When recharging the transmission with dexron(r)vi automatic transmission fluid users must remember that drained fluid stays inside external circuits and transmission cavities. The last step requires checking the transmission fluid level.
