Chevrolet Tahoe Power Steering Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Reservoir on Chevrolet Tahoe?
A: The replacement process for the Power Steering Reservoir starts by removing the Power Steering Pump assembly on 4.8l, 5.3l, 6.0l and 6.2l vehicles. Step one requires removal of Power Steering Reservoir studs from the Power Steering Pump assembly. This step should be followed by disconnecting the Power Steering Pump fitting and its seal. The Power Steering Pump flow control valve should be detached from the pump assembly together with its spring until the Power Steering Reservoir can be separated from the Power Steering Pump. Check the Power Steering Reservoir magnet for cleanliness while carefully examining the welch plug of the Power Steering Pump without taking it out. When the welch plug shows deformation or it becomes dislodged replace the Power Steering Pump. Installation of Power Steering Reservoir magnet should be followed by Power Steering Pump seal installation (1, 4, 5) to the Power Steering Pump. Finally hook up the Power Steering Reservoir to the pump. After attaching the Power Steering Pump flow control valve spring along with flow control valve to the pump assembly install the Power Steering Pump fitting seal. Before locking all torques begin by manually threading the Power Steering Reservoir studs and the Power Steering Pump flow control valve fitting. Position and tighten the Power Steering Pump fitting to the pump assembly at 75 nm (55 lb ft). After installing the Power Steering Reservoir studs onto the pump assembly you should tighten them to 58 nm (44 lb ft). The vehicle requires positioning of the Power Steering Pump assembly before completion.
