The first step for replacing the shift lock control cable involves disabling the sir system followed by removing four screws (1, 6, 3, 4) alongside the two plastic retaining clips (2, 5), and extracting the console box from the floor. Securely remove first the screws and then the upper cover and lower cover from the
Steering Column area. The replacement procedure begins with the removal of the bracket retaining screw attached to the Ignition Switch which enables the detachment of the interlock cable from the Ignition Switch and manual selector. Subsequently, pull the cable out from under the instrument panel along with the carpet then detach it from the interlock cable bracket at the manual selector. Check for damaged areas on the interlock cable then get a new one if damage exists. The new interlock cable must be run beneath carpeting to the manual selector and then beneath the instrument panel to reach the Ignition Switch while using the manual selector lever in neutral mode with Ignition Switch in acc position. Secure the interlock cable end at the Ignition Switch by using the bracket retaining screw while adjusting its tension correctly. The Steering Column's upper and lower covers should be installed and fastened with screws followed by installation of the interlock cable end. The install process requires a 13 nm (115 ft. Lbs.) tightness setting on the interlock cable nut until the key removal test passes for park positions without allowing the Ignition Switch from acc to lock with all positions except park. Reinstall the console box to the floor while adding 2 plastic retaining clips (2,5) and 4 screws (1,6,3,4) and activate the sir.
