Chevrolet Traverse Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Traverse?
A: Before beginning intermediate Steering Shaft replacement secure the Steering Wheel with a strap then lock the Steering Column to shield the sir system from damage. Make sure the Steering Wheel stands in straight forward position before starting the process of disconnecting the Steering Column and intermediate shaft and steering gear. Taking these components off the system should be followed by keeping the front tires and wheels stationary to maintain alignment. Start by using vehicle hoisting tools to elevate the vehicle while removing the intermediate Steering Shaft boot from its position between the steering gear and upper seal. Use a socket to remove the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt then unfasten the shaft from the steering gear assembly. Next follow the procedure to remove the left side instrument panel insulator panel. Remove the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt from the Steering Column before you separate the Steering Shaft from the column and extract the upper seal . Disassembling the new or removed intermediate Steering Shaft becomes easier when owners separate both ends of the shaft outside the vehicle. The installation of the new intermediate Steering Shaft takes place within the vehicle while preserving fastener procedures. Install the intermediate Steering Shaft to the Steering Column before tightening the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt to 22 nm (16 lb ft). After this, place the upper seal correctly. Secure the intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering gear with bolt which also requires a torque setting of 22 nm (16 lb ft). Then reinstall the left side instrument panel insulator panel before setting the intermediate Steering Shaft in its position. Check the intermediate Steering Shaft boot for damage before reinstalling it while keeping it in its original position. Then replace boot sections to both the steering gear and upper seal.
