Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Traverse?
A: To replace the engine front cover, one has to remove the frame from the body, take out the engine and transmission, then remove the Intake Manifold, camshafts covers, water outlet housing assembly, drive belt tensioner, water pump pulley, Power Steering Pump, crankshaft balancer, Camshaft Position Sensors, and finally camshaft position actuator solenoid valves. Then, take out the generator and the engine front cover bolts, then the engine front cover deadener and then the remaining engine front cover bolts. Separate down the rtv sealant with a 10x1.5mm bolt in the "jackscrew" hole, without prying on the camshaft position sensors or the actuator. Take off the front cover of the engine, and align the Crankshaft with en 46111 tool, place en 46105-1 and en 46105-2 tools on the corresponding camshafts. For installation, insert an 8mm (0.315 inches) guide from en 46109 tool at the cylinder block position, apply a 3mm (0.118 inches) bead of rtv sealant and position the engine front cover on the en 46109 tool while removing the tool. Mount the engine front cover deadener and loosely fasten the front cover bolts before tightening them in a sequence to 20 nm (14 lb ft) and additional 60 degrees. Replace /repair the generator, camshaft position actuator solenoid valves, camshaft position sensors, crankshaft balancer, power steering pump, water pump pulley, water outlet housing assembly, drive belt tensioner, camshaft covers and Intake Manifold. Lastly, reinstall the frame with the engine and transmission according to the set instructions for proper installation.
