Chevrolet Uplander Alternator Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the alternator on Chevrolet Uplander?
A: Warning: disconnect the negative terminal first before proceeding with Alternator repair work. Before continuing you must disconnect the washer solvent container and windshield wiper transmission link before setting them aside. The engine needs to rotate forward before drivers remove the Drive Belt. Start by disconnecting the engine harness output wire and electrical connector from the generator while you remove the nut which secures the power steering lines to the generator. Disconnect the wire harness from its shock tower retainers while moving the power steering lines out of the way. Take out the generator by first removing its idler pulley bolt and pulley and then its lower bolt and stud before using the upper bolt to remove it. During installation place the generator into its correct position then use the lower bolt and stud to achieve initial tightness before installing the upper bolt and tightening all components to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). First reinstall the idler pulley with its bolt then connect the wire harness to shock tower retainers and guide the power steering lines back to the generator bracket before tightening the retaining nut. Use the generator's electrical connector and ground to retrieve power while tightening the ground nut to a torque of 30 n.m (22 lb ft). First replace the Drive Belt then put the engine back to its original position before tightening the engine mount strut bolts. Finally, reconnect the negative Battery Cable while also installing the washer solvent container followed by reconnecting the windshield wiper transmission.
