  Q: What tools are required to service and repair the differential for final drive replacement (M15) on Chevrolet Venture?

  A: To service and to repair the differential in general and for the final drive replacement (M15) the following tools and instruments will be required: Exhaust Liner Tube (G 42737), Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562), and Transjel Lubricant (J 36850). Start with a removal of the housing of a case extension. Rotate the differential carrier until it is possible to see the end of the output shaft and if the differential pinion shaft (701) makes a horizontal angle. Place Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562) on either side of the output end. Using a hammer strike the end of axle remove tool compressing the output shaft compression ring output shaft compression ring (512) and forcing the output shaft through differential side gear. Next, remove the differential carrier (700) and snap ring pliers in order to remove the compression ring (512) off the output shaft. Go ahead to take out the sun gear thrust bearing (698), that could stick on the differential carrier sun gear, then the differential carrier sun gear (697), park gear (696), internal gear thrust bearing (695) from the differential carrier internal gear, and the sun gear shaft (689). Check for any damage on the sun gear shaft (689). As for installation: assemble up the sun gear thrust bear (698), differential carrier sun gear(697), park gear (696), internal gear thrust bear (695), and the sun gear shaft (689) into the differential carrier (700), then you can assemble up the differential carrier in to the case, and then reassemble up the case extension housing.
