Service and repair of front-wheel-drive differential components starts with removing the case extension housing. Turn the differential carrier while maintaining visibility of the output shaft end position so the horizontal angle of the differential pinion shaft (701) can be reached. Drive the Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562) between the output shaft's end and the differential pinion shaft's end. Strike the axle removal tool end with a hammer to collapse the output shaft compression ring (512) and push the output shaft through the differential side gear. Take out the differential carrier (700) and apply snap ring pliers to eliminate the compression ring (512) from the output shaft. Start by separating the sun gear thrust bearing (698) off the differential carrier sun gear while taking care to handle stuck components before moving onto the differential carrier sun gear (697), park gear (696) and internal gear thrust bearing (695) from the differential carrier internal gear followed by removing the sun gear shaft (689). Check the sun gear shaft (689) for signs of hardware damage. Begin installation by fitting the sun gear thrust bearing (698) with the differential carrier sun gear (697) and park gear (696) and internal gear thrust bearing (695) while using the sun gear shaft (689) into the differential carrier (700) which will be installed into the case followed by case extension housing reinstallation. The installation process demands Transjel Lubricant J 36850 according to operational needs.

Service technicians need Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562) and Transjel Lubricant (J 36850) to replace final drive units during differential servicing (M15). Two tools needed for differential service and repair include Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562) and Transjel Lubricant (J 36850). First secure case extension housing out of the way then turn differential carrier through a full 360° until you can see output shaft end while differential pinion shaft (701) becomes horizontal. Use the Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562) between the output shaft end and differential pinion shaft. Strike the tool end with a hammer to compress the output shaft compression ring (512) so the output shaft passes through the differential side gear. After taking out the differential carrier (700) install snap ring pliers to remove the output shaft compression ring (509). Start by extracting the stuck sun gear thrust bearing (698) from the differential carrier sun gear and continue with the differential carrier sun gear (697) and park gear (696) and internal gear thrust bearing (695). Check the sun gear shaft (689) for damage after its complete removal. Put together the sun gear thrust bearing (698) and differential carrier sun gear (697) with park gear (696) and internal gear thrust bearing (695) and sun gear shaft (689) for the differential carrier (700) before installing the differential.

When servicing and repairing the differential, particularly for front-wheel-drive vehicles, start by removing the case extension housing. Rota te the difrrential carrier so that it points out the end of the diffrrential output shaft along with the differential pinion shaft (701) pointing horizontal. Between the end of the output shaft and differential pinion shaft; insert the Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562). Tap the end of the axle removal tool with the hammer to squeeze the output shaft compression ring (512) and force the output shaft through the differential side gear. Next, discard the differential carrier (700) and use snap ring pliers in order to remove the compression ring (512) from the output shaft. Go on to remove the sun gear thrust bearing (698) from diffterringal carrier sun gear, which is most likely stuck along with the removal of diffringal carrier sun gear (697), park gear (696), internal gear thrust bearing (695) and from diffterringal carrier internal gear, and finally the sun gear shaft (689). Check for damage to the sun gear shaft (689). For installation, install the sun gear thrust bearing (698), differential carrier sun gear (697), park gear (696), internal gear thrust bearing (695), and sun gear shaft (689) into the differential carrier (700), and install the differential carrier into the case and finally the case extension housing. Also, make sure to apply a Transjel Lubricant (J 36850) as required during the process.

Put together the sun gear thrust bearing (698) and differential carrier sun gear (697) with park gear (696) and internal gear thrust bearing (695) and sun gear shaft (689) for the differential carrier (700) before installing the differential.

To service and to repair the differential in general and for the final drive replacement (M15) the following tools and instruments will be required: Exhaust Liner Tube (G 42737), Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562), and Transjel Lubricant (J 36850). Start with a removal of the housing of a case extension. Rotate the differential carrier until it is possible to see the end of the output shaft and if the differential pinion shaft (701) makes a horizontal angle. Place Axle Removal Wedge (J 42562) on either side of the output end. Using a hammer strike the end of axle remove tool compressing the output shaft compression ring output shaft compression ring (512) and forcing the output shaft through differential side gear. Next, remove the differential carrier (700) and snap ring pliers in order to remove the compression ring (512) off the output shaft. Go ahead to take out the sun gear thrust bearing (698), that could stick on the differential carrier sun gear, then the differential carrier sun gear (697), park gear (696), internal gear thrust bearing (695) from the differential carrier internal gear, and the sun gear shaft (689). Check for any damage on the sun gear shaft (689). As for installation: assemble up the sun gear thrust bear (698), differential carrier sun gear(697), park gear (696), internal gear thrust bear (695), and the sun gear shaft (689) into the differential carrier (700), then you can assemble up the differential carrier in to the case, and then reassemble up the case extension housing.

Use a hammer to strike the end of the axle removal tool.

Install the differential carrier into the case and reinstall the case extension housing.
