Q: How to Replace an Alternator (CS 144) on GMC C3500?
A: First step for generator (CS 144) replacement begins by disconnecting the battery negative cable afterward disconnect the terminal plug and battery lead from the generator's rear side. The replacement process begins by taking out the generator mounting bolts which secure the generator onto both the brace and bracket and ending with generator removal. Before installation place the generator in position while installing the generator mounting bolts with loose torque to bracket and brace. Secure the brace then perform a torque check of 50 n.m (37 lb ft) on the generator mounting bolts. Reinstall both the Drive Belt and upper Fan Shroud when required. The battery lead needs to be connected to the generator's back segment with the battery terminal nut fastened to 8 n.m (71 lb in) before the terminal plug is attached to the generator's back and the negative Battery Cable is reinstalled.
