How to service and repair the alternator on GMC Jimmy?

The procedure for Alternator service begins by removing the negative Battery Cable. Start by removing the Drive Belt and continuing with heater hose brace bolt removal from the generator before proceeding with generator mounting bolt removal. You must first disconnect the generator electrical connector before carefully removing the generator from its mounting bracket. Section two of the maintenance starts with dislodging the generator output (BAT) terminal retaining nut from the generator. Secure the generator output (BAT) terminal wire while maintaining its insulation boot in place and tighten to 17 n.m torque (12 lb ft torque). Secure the generator to the mounting bracket using the mounting bolts while tightening them to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). After tightening the generator's heater hose bracket bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft), install the Drive Belt. Finish the procedure by reconnecting the battery negative cable.
