How to service and repair the starter motor on GMC Jimmy?

Service and repair on the Starter motor begins with disconnecting the battery negative cable while securing the vehicle. During the service start the differential carrier shield must be removed by taking out its mounting bolts and its shield. First disconnect the wires from the solenoid followed by removing the Starter mounting bolts to take out the Starter from the vehicle while keeping track of any shims placed on it. When installing the Starter motor wires should be connected to the solenoid with the battery positive cable nut torqued to 9 n.m (80 lb in) along with the engine wiring harness to Starter nut torqued to 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). Place the Starter within the opening first followed by the inboard Starter mounting bolt and maintain loose tension on both parts before setting the Starter shims if required before inserting the outboard Starter mounting bolt. Install the differential carrier shield and press in its mounting bolts to 25 n.m torque specification (18 lb ft) if the vehicle is so equipped. Before returning power, lower the vehicle and connect the battery negative cable.
