How to replace the rear outer door handle and lock cylinder on GMC Safari?

Starting to change the rear door outside components requires first removing the trim panel. A sharp bladed tool should be used for separating the water deflector by cutting through its perforations. Begin by taking away the access hole plug together with the lock rod from the door handle. Remove the nuts housing the door handle before extracting it from the door surface. Remove the lock rod from the lock cylinder then take out the lock cylinder retainer followed by the lock cylinder with gasket from the door. Cylinder keyway and lock case need GM P/N 12346241 lubricant treatment for installation preparation. First, place the gasket next to the lock cylinder before installing both components onto the door. Afterward, attach the lock cylinder retainer to the door. Next step is to place the handle on the door along with reattaching the lock rod to its proper placement on the lock cylinder. Position the nuts on the door handle before securing them to 6 N.m (53 lb in). After reconnecting the door handle lock rod you should install the access hole plug followed by reinstallation of the water deflector. The trim panel installation procedure concludes with placing it back onto the final position. It is mandatory to use fresh plastic retainers for any time a lock rod needs removal.
