- Q: How to replace the pushrod and valve rocker arm on GMC Savana 2500?A: Start by taking out the valve Rocker Arm cover and keeping valve rocker arms pushrods along with pivot support in a rack for their correct positions. Remove the valve Rocker Arm bolts initially and subsequently remove the valve rocker arms with the valve Rocker Arm pivot support before extracting the pushrods. You must evaluate the valve rocker arms and pushrods for any damage before cleaning them. Install both valve train components in their original locations because the valve lash is naturally built without requiring any adjustment during installation. Clean engine oil should be used for lubricating both valve rocker arms and pushrods and the flange at the end of valve Rocker Arm bolts needs lubrication as well. Add the valve Rocker Arm pivot support then zero-load the pushrods into the valve lifter sockets before placing pushrods into correct positions within the Rocker Arm ends before torquing bolt screws. First install the rocker arms and their bolts before rotating the Crankshaft to top dead center (TDC) compression where both number one rocker arms become off lobe lift and the Crankshaft sprocket key reaches the 1:30 position. The engine should be in the number one firing position to secure all valve Rocker Arm bolts for cylinders 1 and 2 and 7 and 8 exhaust at 30 n.m (22 lb ft) while securing bolts for cylinders 1, 3, 4, and 5 intake at 30 n.m (22 lb ft). Turn the Crankshaft by 360 degrees then apply torque of 30 n.m (22 lb ft) to the exhaust valve Rocker Arm bolts of cylinders 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the intake valve Rocker Arm bolts of cylinders 2, 6, 7 and 8. The last step entails mounting the valve Rocker Arm cover.
