GMC Sierra 3500 Classic Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on an Allison Automatic Transmission on GMC Sierra 3500 Classic?
A: You need to raise the vehicle before the allison automatic transmission Oil Pan replacement begins under the following protocol. First measure the amount of transmission fluid lost from the original pan because viable fluid from good condition can be reused. The Oil Pan drain operation requires users to extract the Drain Plug and Drain Plug seal from the Oil Pan so the fluid flows into a suitable container while they examine the drained fluid. Remove the 12 bolts from the Oil Pan while supporting the pan to complete bolt removal before you can remove the entire pan with its gasket. An excessive volume or size of metal particles on the magnet during inspection would require either transmission replacement or repair. The replacement of an Oil Pan and gasket should only be conducted without touching the transmission internal oil filter or seal. To replace the filter pull the transmission internal oil filter downward from the suction tube in the transmission case before discarding it together with the old seal. Remove all transmission gasket material from the case while eliminating any scratching on the surface that might lead to leakage. Position the new seal onto the tube of the transmission internal oil filter then slide the filter and seal into the transmission case seal bore with correct alignment. Affix 2 m8 x 1.25 headless guide bolts in opposing corners of the Oil Pan mounting surface, before you implement the gasket which will also receive the Oil Pan. Secure the gasket and Oil Pan over the guide bolts using two bolts before you remove the guide bolts and install ten Oil Pan bolts that should be tightened to 27 n.m (20 lb ft). Place the Drain Plug with its seal while tightening it to 35 n.m (26 lb ft), then bring the vehicle to the ground. Add dexron(R)vi automatic transmission fluid while considering the fluid that stayed in the external circuits and transmission cavities before checking the transmission fluid level.
