GMC Sierra 3500 Pilot Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to replace the pilot bearing on GMC Sierra 3500?
A: Two necessary tools for substituting a Pilot Bearing include clutch Pilot Bearing remover (J 43276) and bushing installer/clutch arbor (J 38836). The first step demands that you take out the clutch assembly. The clutch Pilot Bearing remover tool body (J 43276-1) requires wrench securement to prevent tool rotation for tool safety purposes. Proceed with the operation after removing the flywheel spacer when necessary. Place j 43276-1 into the clutch Pilot Bearing then clamp it with a wrench before adding j 43276-2 into j 43276-1. After rotating the j 43276-2 in a clockwise direction until complete clutch Pilot Bearing separation from the Crankshaft you should reverse the rotation to separate it from the j 43276-1 before removing the j 43276-1 from the tool body. The maintenance procedure requires disposal of the obsolete clutch Pilot Bearing. Before starting the installation process users must remove all flywheel spacers if present. Place a new clutch Pilot Bearing on the tool by first placing a 5/8 inch washer onto the bushing installer/clutch arbor (J 38836) or equivalent. The bushing installer/clutch arbor (J 38836) should be utilized to mount a new clutch Pilot Bearing into the Crankshaft before performing inspection checks and reassembly of the clutch component.
