- Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on GMC Terrain?A:A complete tool set needed to fix Valve Stem Oil Seal includes valve guide seal remover (EN-36017), valve spring compressor (EN-43649), valve spring compressor adaptor set (EN-43649-10), and flywheel holding tool (EN-43653). Before starting the work you need to block the Crankshaft from moving while using pressurized air in the cylinder. You should leave manual transmission vehicles in first gear with the parking brake engaged. Take away the Starter unit when dealing with automatic transmissions. Slip the flywheel holding tool (EN-43653) onto the device and take out the Camshaft and Camshaft roller followers. Place the valve spring compressor adaptor set (EN-43649-10) against the cylinder head and secure the valve spring compressor (EN-43649) to these adaptors. Put an air hose connector into the Spark Plug opening and set cylinder pressure at 690 kpa or 100 psi through the hose adapter. With the valve spring compressor fix the valve spring then take out the valve spring keepers, valve spring, and retainer. You should take off the valve seal with the valve guide seal remover (EN-36017) tool next place a new Valve Stem Oil Seal, valve spring, and retainer before compressing the spring and putting in the keepers. Unplug the air compressor hose and take out the valve spring compressor and its adapter tools. Install new spark plugs with the Camshaft roller followers and Camshaft in their proper places. Close with the flywheel holding device (EN-43653) when done and put back the Starter if needed.
