The first task when replacing an HVAC system accumulator requires recovering the refrigerant before starting the replacement process. Content leakage should be tested using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) on all reinstalled fittings. Start by taking off the suction hose retainer from the accumulator and then disconnecting the suction hose followed by the evaporator hose assembly. The vehicle technician removes the accumulator after disconnecting its retainer. The installation of a new accumulator requires refrigerant oil addition for replacement designs. The preservation of the evaporator hose assembly must exclude lubricant during its installation followed by repaired accumulator retainer connections and possible washer substitution. Use a retaining nut to fasten the evaporation hose assembly at 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Attach the suction hose to the accumulator after checking its sealing washer for damage and performing a replacement if needed followed by securing the retaining nut at 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The refrigerant system requires recharging after which the technician must perform a leak test with the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).

Remove the suction hose retainer from the accumulator, followed by the suction hose and the evaporator hose assembly.

Connect the suction hose to the accumulator and secure it with the retaining nut, also tightening it to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

Install the suction hose to the accumulator and tighten the suction hose retaining nut to the same torque specification.
