    Q:
How to replace the shift cable on Chevrolet Express 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the Shift Cable requires activating the parking brake along with adjusting the steering column shift lever into park. Empty the knee bolster trim panel along with the bracket from beneath the knee bolster. After you detach the shift cable from the steering column bracket by removing its clip you need to free the shift cable from the steering column shift control. You must first lift the carpet layer with insulation to reach the shift cable pass-through grommet in the floor panel and then take off the rubber grommet from these areas. The maintenance worker will start by elevating the vehicle while they detach the shift cable from its stud ball. They must then retrieve the locking clip from the bracket area connecting to the cable. Lower the vehicle along with removing the shift cable by unclipping it from its retainers at the fuel lines and body. Make sure to install the shift components when both the transmission control lever and column shift lever are in mechanical park position after clockwise full rotation until complete engagement. After you install the shift cable to the vehicle you should raise the vehicle before removing the black shipping tab from the shift cable end at the transmission bracket to complete installation of the shift cable at the transmission bracket. Secure the cable with its clip and attach the cable end at the transmission shift control lever by pushing it onto the stud ball before locking both primary and secondary locks. After connecting the shift cable to the fuel line and body clips you should lower the vehicle until the rubber grommet can be installed onto the floor panel when the shift lever is fully in the Park position. Connect the shift cable to the steering column shift control and fasten it at the steering column bracket with the clip before connecting it at the shift lever ball stud. Properly adjust the shift cable before reinstalling the knee bolster bracket and knee bolster trim panel.
