    Q:
How to service and repair the flex plate and replace the engine flywheel on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process of flex plate maintenance and engine Flywheel replacement should start by properly supporting the vehicle at an elevated height. The transmission support fixture (J 42055) helps with exhaust system removal while the driveline support assembly with transaxle should be removed next. First remove the retaining bolts of the inspection cover from the engine Flywheel housing before removing both the inspection cover and engine Flywheel from its position. Installation of the engine Flywheel should begin by verifying the condition of both the clutch Pressure Plate and clutch driven plate for damage or wear before repairs or replacements start. Begin by adjusting the clutch Pressure Plate before installing the clutch driven plate along with the clutch Pressure Plate onto the engine Flywheel while tightening the visible clutch Pressure Plate bolts by hand. Start by rotating the Flywheel of the engine while performing sequential finger-tightening steps for all bolts. You can achieve clutch driven plate alignment with the pilot bushing installer/clutch alignment arbor (J 38836), before tightening each clutch Pressure Plate bolt in specific increments to reach 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The expert procedure ends by reinstalling the engine Flywheel inspection cover with its retaining bolts torqued to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The next steps involve installing the driveline support assembly before installing the transaxle and exhaust system before lowering the vehicle.
